A mechanical issue forced the shutdown of the NFTA's Metro Rail service for much of the day Thursday.
A catenary, or overhead electrical supply wire, apparently failed inside the tunnel section of the route under Main Street. That failure also led to the damage of some pantographs on several rail cars, the devices that pick up the current for propulsion.
Service was suspended at around 8 a.m., during the morning commute, so repairs could be made. Extra Main bus shuttles were added to accommodate passengers.
In a 2 p.m. tweet, the NFTA said trains were running again and it expected to be back in full service by 2:45 p.m.
