Sheriff Update: 1 of 3 Lockport girls injured Tuesday has died

Niagara County Sheriff

"The Niagara County Sheriff's Office regrets to inform that the juvenile female that was struck at 7219 Rapids Road did succumb to her injuries and died at Oishei Children's Hospital." That was the update overnight about a motor vehicle accident that happened Tuesday evening in Lockport.

It all began about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday with multiple 911 calls. When deputies arrived, they determined five girls were walking along Rapids Road when a vehicle struck three of them, aged 9-14.

The Sheriff said two of the girls were transported by ambulance to Oishei and were in stable condition Wednesday. Another girl was transported to Oishei by Mercy Flight and arrived in critical condition. The male driver of the vehicle was not injured.

The Sheriff is still withholding the names of those involved and no charges have been announced. Anyone who witnessed the accident or the children walking on Rapids Road prior to the accident are asked to call 438-3393.
