With Election Day here, voters will be seeing countless signs as they make their way to the polls. In Buffalo, there’s street vendors on corners selling yard signs featuring a political ticket of star Bills quarterback Josh Allen and receiver Stefon Diggs. WBFO’s Nick Lippa stopped by one corner after seeing people swerve off the road to purchase some in North Buffalo.
The last time the Buffalo Bills held sole position of first place in the AFC East on a November election day was… let’s just say some of the people voting weren’t even born yet.
But this election year, the Bills are favorites to win the AFC East. So many fans, instead of putting up a Trump or Biden sign in their yard, are putting one up of Josh Allen.
“I’ve had a few people stop me and they’ve asked, ‘What party are the running under?’ And I said the Bills,” Glenn laughed. “The Bills party.”
Glenn drove in from Derby, New York to sell signs and Bills merchandise on the corner of Elmwood and Hertel Avenue.
“It wasn’t my idea,” said Glenn. “The guy that I work for, it was his idea. He’s got a store in the mall (near Foot Locker). You just don’t get much advertisement in a store.”
The signs and their workers are coming from a sports store inside McKinley Mall. They won’t be staying for long at that Hertel/Elmwood location.
Glenn said the developer of the land has received complaints and doesn’t want to be liable for any injuries near a busy intersection.
“They’re afraid to get sued. They can’t be too afraid otherwise they really would have fenced this all off. Anybody can walk through here and fall down,” Glenn said.
While election season will end soon, Glenn said he plans to keep moving to different street corners around Buffalo selling signs and gear a little longer this fall season.
“I’ll find another street corner,” Glenn said. “There’s a million of them in Buffalo.”
