WNY Catholic newspaper goes online-only

WNY Catholic
Among the latest stories in the WNY Catholic was the Dominican Sisters' decision to close its monastery on Doat Street.

Western New York Catholic newspaper has announced it is discontinuing its printed edition.

The September issue, now in diocesan parishes, is the last printed edition. Managing Editor Patrick McPartland noted in his September column that people now get their news online and that is how the publication will continue.

It has been in print under various names for 148 years, including The Catholic Union and Times and the Magnificat. About 43,000 copies are in circulation and discontinuing its printing is estimated to save the financially challenged diocese $130,000 annually.

Diocesan news and other stories will be updated daily at the paper's website, WNYCatholic.org.

Mark Wozniak, WBFO's local All Things Considered host, has been at WBFO since mid-1978.
