Demonstrators call for social justice on Hertel Avenue

Tom Dinki, WBFO News

Demonstrators held a peaceful Black Lives Matter march and rally along Hertel Avenue yesterday evening, hoping to raise awarness to issues like racial injustice and police brutality.

It was the latest demonstration amid an ongoing national movement of prtests calling for racial equity in the wake of police killings of black men.

Organizers from the Western New York Liberation Collective and Western New York Peace Center say the event was held in solidarity with yesterday's "March on Washington DC," which saw thousands come out to protest racial inequity.

The demonstrations all fell on the anniversary of the March on Washington of the Civil Rights Movement, where Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his now-famous "I have a dream speach."

Yesterday's march on Hertel was peaceful, and police escorted the group west along Hertel Avenue.
