There will be no UB football, as well as several other sports, this upcoming fall.
The Mid-American Conference became the first competing in division one college football to cancel its 2020 season. A person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press the university president’s voted to not play in the fall and consider a spring season.
Other fall sports affected include men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, field hockey and women's volleyball.
Much of a MAC schools revenue comes from playing power conference teams. The majority of those games were cancelled, making it harder for schools like UB to maintain costly COVID-19 protocols.
In a statement from University at Buffalo President Dr. Satish Tripathi, he said, "This decision is in the best interest of all Mid-American Conference student-athletes, athletics departments and university communities."
As of now, no current decision has been made regarding winter sports.
