Two women were shot, one fatally, in an early morning incident Sunday on the 300 block of Koons Avenue near Walden in Buffalo.

Police responded around 12:45am to a report of shots fired at a large outdoor block party. Homicide detectives say a 21-year-old woman from Buffalo was struck by gunfire and possibly run over by a vehicle. She was transported to the Erie County Medical Center where she later died.

A 22-year-old female from Niagara Falls was also shot. But she was treated and released from ECMC. Detectives say a handgun was recovered near the scene.

The overnight violence followed three shootings yesterday that left three people wounded, one critically. And it comes during a month when the number of shootings so far have reached 35. There have been no arrests in any of them.
