The Taste of Buffalo announces details of virtual festival

Attendees pack the streets of downtown Buffalo for The Taste of Buffalo in 2016. This year's festival will be held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Taste of Buffalo announced Wednesday what their food festival will look like online, without patrons.

The Taste of Buffalo at Home, to be held July 11 and 12, will feature a virtual happy hour, live music, and of course, food. Rather than local restaurants, food trucks and wineries gathering in Buffalo, they’ll be serving up special dishes available for takeout that weekend and while supplies last.

To keep the focus on food, there will also be a Virtual Culinary Stage where VIP guests can get ingredient boxes to cook along with local chefs, including Darian Bryan of the The Plating Society.

“I'll be joined by lots of local chefs making a lot of summer dishes — nice fresh and delicious on live on both Facebook and Instagram,” Bryan said. “You're at home, just roll on up out of bed and come and cook with me.”

Rather than canceling the annual event, the Taste of Buffalo went online to give much-needed business to local restaurants that were shut down for several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There is a virtual event guide available on its website with a complete list of events and takeout options from participating restaurants.
