Construction has begun on a new pedestrian entry into Niagara Falls State Park. Officials said it will improve the visitor experience at the park and to downtown Niagara Falls.
USA Niagara Development Corporation and New York State Parks announced the start of work, noting the pedestrian entry at 305 Buffalo Avenue will pass through a vacant lot that was obtained through the Buffalo Billion program.
“It has long been envisioned that every street in downtown Niagara Falls would provide pedestrian access to the water’s edge,” said USAN President Anthony Vilardo. “We are very proud to have partnered with New York State Parks in providing access to the residents of Niagara Falls and to the millions of visitors we attract annually.”
The project consists of a 6'-wide asphalt pathway through the 1-acre vacant property, a steel stairway descending 28' and another asphalt pathway that connects to the Riverway path system. Lighting of the new path is also included.
It is a $682,000 project, which will be publicly owned and maintained.
