CARES Act provide funding for low-income housing

Western New York Rep. Brian Higgins (D-Buffalo) has announced that nearly $4 million in federal funding has been allocated from the CARES Act, approved by Congress in March for the protection of residents in low-income housing during the coronavirus pandemic.

The $3.85 million dollars will be shared among the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority, the Niagara Falls Housing Authority, the Lackawanna Municipal Housing Authority and the Kenmore Municipal Housing Authority to help cover additional costs associated with maximizing safety measures in living spaces.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act includes a provision that imposes a 120-day moratorium from March 27 on evictions, fees and penalties related to nonpayment of rent.
