Pegula Sports & Entertainment, in partnership with the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres foundations, has announced it will provide at least $1.2 million in direct community aid to Western New York residents in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team foundations will contribute to the newly formed Western New York COVID-19 Community Response Fund, announced with a $4 million endowment by 18 local foundations Tuesday.

PSE is also making a broad and ongoing commitment to FeedMore WNY, formerly the Food Bank of WNY and Meals on Wheels for WNY, and the Rural Outreach Center in East Aurora.

The remainder of the aid will be directed to areas of most pressing need, including support for first responders, hospital workers, nurses, and protective- and medical-equipment supplies.

Meanwhile, Buffalo-based hospitality giant Delaware North has announced worldwide layoffs due to the wide-ranging impact of the coronavirus on the company.

Delaware North’s more than 200 operating locations in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, including sports and entertainment venues, restaurants, casinos, and parks, have been forced to close. Their airport locations are continuing to operate, but only at a greatly reduced scale.

In a statement on its website, Delaware North said it has placed more than two-thirds of its 3,100 full-time employees on temporary leave. That includes several hundred workers at its downtown headquarters on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo.
The affected workers will get one week of pay and eight weeks of benefits, while the remaining employees will be working at a reduced salary.
