UB announces its first positive COVID-19 case

The University at Buffalo has announced the first positive case of COVID-19 in its community. The affected individual is in mandatory isolation in their off-campus private residence.

In a press release, UB says it is working closely with Erie County Department of Health officials to reach out to any students, faculty or staff who may have come into contact with this individual. These people may, in accordance with CDC guidelines, be placed under a mandatory self-quarantine to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms. They will not return to campus until they have completed the quarantine.

UB is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and taking all appropriate precautions to safeguard the well-being of our students, faculty and staff. This includes following the guidance of the CDC, and the state and county health departments,” UB President Satish Tripathi said, in a statement.

UB is on spring break this week and students are being advised to stay home for the rest of the semester and participate in classes, labs and other learning environments being taught online.
