Cuomo calls April 28 special election for Collins seat

File photo

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has officially called an April 28 special election for the 27th District seat vacated by former congressman Chris Collins.

That is the date Cuomo has hinted at for months and is the same day as New York's presidential primary.

Collins resigned his House seat last fall after pleading guilty to federal insider trading charges. The seat has been vacant ever since and, after the special election, will be part of the general election this November.

Democrat Nate McMurray and Republican state Senator Chris Jacobs have gained the endorsements of their major parties for the special election but other candidates, including former Darien town justice Beth Parlato, are also interested in the seat.

Three vacant Assembly seats and one vacant Senate seat will also be filled on that day.

Monday - Friday, 10 a.m.. - 2 p.m.
