Lockport man identified in snowplow death

The Niagara County Sheriff's Department has identified the man struck and killed by a vehicle in the Town of Lockport Tuesday evening.

Frederick Bishop, 69, of Dysinger Road was struck by a private snowplow driven by Matthew Steinman, 46, of Royalton shortly after 6 p.m., while walking along Dysinger near his home.

Steinman told police he was unable to stop after Bishop stepped into his path from the north shoulder of the road. Bishop was declared dead at the scene.

Part of Dysinger Road was closed between Old Beattie Road and Raymond Road as police investigated. They said Steinman was not intoxicated.
