Rain, heavy wet snow create messy Saturday

The rain and  heavy, wet snow that fell across Western New York Saturday made for some messy walking but caused minimal problems. Drivers in the immediate Buffalo area were able to get around despite the snowfall. Those traveling south, especially in Springville, encountered more difficult driving conditions because of higher amounts of snow.

The Erie County Public Works Department had 28 trucks out plowing and salting roads last night. Officials told WGRZ-TV the heavy rains earlier in the day made things tricky for crews because the presence of so much water on roadways diluted the salt that was spread.

Officially, 1.2 inches fell at the airport weather station. But a snow spotter in the Town of Boston reported 8.5 inches.

All weather warnings and advisories are now expired. No or little additional accumulation is expected in Buffalo Sunday though the higher elevations in the Southern Tier could see another one to two inches.

It'll be windy across the region Sunday with gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
