Longtime state assemblyman Robin Schimminger will not seek re-election next year.

Schimminger, a Kenmore Democrat who represents the 140th District, has served in the Assembly since 1977. He plans to complete his current term through the end of next year.

Schimminger, 72, is the longtime chairman of the Assembly's economic development committee.

In a statement, Schimminger said he wants to be able to spend more time with family.

Mark Wozniak, WBFO's local All Things Considered host, has been at WBFO since mid-1978.
