Tony Hawk Foundation provides funding for area skate parks

The foundation started by renowned skateboarder Tony Hawk is helping to fund skate parks in the communities of Lockport and Ellicottville.

The Tony Hawk Foundation announced that it has partnered with the Ralph Wilson Jr. Foundation to provide matching grants of $300,000 to each community to fund new concrete skate parks.

The funding comes as part of the Built to Play Skatepark Grant program, which has helped to fund 14 skatepark projects, with two already open in Michigan and the first in New York due in early 2020, according to information on the Tony Hawk Foundation website.

Lockport has been working to renovate its skate park in recent months, while in Ellicottville, officials are planning on building a 10,000 square-foot skatepark.
