Pope Francis is expected to meet with Buffalo Bishop Richard Malone at the Vatican this week.

Bishop Malone is spending the next several days in Rome with other bishops from across New York State for what is known as "ad limina." According to a written statement issued by the Diocese ad limina between bishops and the Pope is held every 5-7 years.

Prior to their visit, each bishop submitted a report to the Vatican providing an overview on the life of the Catholic Church in their dioceses. And the bishops will visit various departments of the Holy See to seek counsel and guidance or express concerns.

Malone and the other bishops will also celebrate mass at the tombs of the Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul. Malone says he will "pray for the healing of the diocese - especially for the healing of victims and survivors affected by clergy sexual abuse."

In early October - after repeated calls for Malone's resignation over the crisis - the Vatican ordered Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio to investigate Malone and the Buffalo Diocese. It is not clear whether or not the Pope will use the bishop's visit to discuss DiMarzio's findings with Malone.
