Erie County DA opens criminal investigation based on former seminarian's allegations

WBFO News

The Erie County District Attorney’s Office has confirmed it has opened a criminal investigation based on allegations made by a former seminarian in the Buffalo Catholic Diocese.

In August, former Christ the King seminarian Matthew Bojanowski held a news conference in front of the Buffalo Diocese Catholic Center criticizing Bishop Richard Malone’s handling of alleged unwanted sexual advances towards Bojanowski by Fr. Jeffrey Nowak of Our Lady of Help Christians Church in Cheektowaga.

Nowak has since been placed on administrative leave.

Bojanowski is also alleging intimidation, surveillance and stalking of Christ the King seminarians. The Diocese continues to be under federal investigation into child abuse allegations.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Thomas moved to Western New York at the age of 14. A graduate of Buffalo State College, he majored in Communications Studies and was part of the sports staff for WBNY. When not following his beloved University of Kentucky Wildcats and Boston Red Sox, Thomas enjoys coaching youth basketball, reading Tolkien novels and seeing live music.
