Prominent area Democratic leaders gathered this morning at Niawanda Park in support of State Assemblyman Sean Ryan and his bid for the state Senate. Ryan announced his candidacy for the 60th Senate District seat that is currently held by Republican Chris Jacobs. Ryan contends that another Democratic voice is needed to bolster the progress underway in Western New York.

"Right now, there's only one Democratic Senator west of Syracuse, and that is my colleague, Tim Kennedy. But we definitely need more voices in Buffalo in we want to keep the momentum that we have going."

Ryan is hoping to strengthen the Democratic majority in the Senate, which was gained by the party last year after generations of Republican dominance.

Jacobs has announced his candidacy for the 27th Congressional seat currently held by Chris Collins, giving Ryan a potential opening to the Senate.
