Skydiving accident kills one person in Wyoming County

New York State Police

State Police are investigating a fatal skydiving accident in Wyoming County. It happened just after noon on Saturday in the town of Perry.

Troopers responded to a cornfield off Soper Road. They say Richard Cordero, 68, of Bergen had flow out of the Perry/Warsaw airport with three other people.

All four of them jumped from the plane and the other three landed safely. Police say that Cordero’s parachute opened normally, but then became tangled.  Troopers attempted life-saving measures, but Cordero was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that Cordero had over 45 years of skydiving experience and that the skydivers in the plane were associated with the company Rochester Skydivers.

The investigation is continuing.
