What color will Allen Street's new sidewalks be?

Chris Caya WBFO News

The first phase of reconstructing Allen Street, in Buffalo, is moving along on schedule. But before the next step in the project is taken - engineers are asking for the public's help.

Before new concrete gets poured along Allen Street between Main and Franklin - the public's being asked to weigh in on the color scheme.

"There's a sidewalk, and a parking lane. The furnishing zone is in the middle, between the two, where we're going to put benches, bike racks, bollards, trash receptacles and landscaping," said project engineer Bryce Hammerton.

He says the three sections will be seperated using different colors of concrete. Test panels for the public to compare are on the ground at the corner of Allen and North Pearl. Hammerton says the choice is between three warm colors and three cool colors.

Project Engineer Bryce Hamerton talks with Barbara and Jim Timlin about the color choices for the new concrete along Allen Street.

"This is one of the two sidewalk areas. We've got pecan and a smoke. And then for the furnishing zone we exposed the aggregate and we've got a verde for the warm pallette. And a slate for the cool pallette. And then for a little a bit darker of a color for the parking lane there's an onyx and a slate," Hammerton said.
Allentown resident Barbara Timlin was among several people stopping by, Monday, to give her opinion.
"We've been waiting a long time for this street to get taken care of. So everybody's really excited about it," Timlin said.
Hammerton says public comments are being accepted through Wednesday - and the new concrete should start going in along Allen Street early next week.
