The contract between Kaleida Health and its three labor unions expired at midnight last night. The contract covered approximately 8,000 employees. According to CWA Local 1168 President Cori Gambini, fifty bargaining session have failed to bring resolutions to issues regarding staffing, working conditions and economic concerns among others.
Jim Scordato, Vice-President of 1199 SEIU said, "Over 500 people attended a membership meeting in our bargaining room this past Wednesday and voiced their concerns: safe staffing, no concessions and the ability to care for ourselves and our families are high priorities in any settlement."
The next bargaining sessions are not scheduled until July first, though union representatives state that they are willing to return to negotiations next week.
