Buffalo diocese substantiates child sexual abuse allegations against priest

Allegations of child sexual abuse against a priest in the Diocese of Buffalo have been substantiated. Fr. Michael P. Juran will remain on administrative leave, following an investigation launched by The Independent Diocesan Review Board. Juran served in numerous churches across the region over decades.
His case will next be reviewed by a congregation at the Vatican, which will make a final determination.

The diocese also announced Thursday an allegation of child sexual abuse against Fr. Robert M. Yetter has not been substantiated. Yetter, however, will remain on administative leave because allegations of adult sexual abuse against him are still being considered

The review board also investigated complaints of improper conduct, levied by adults, against Fr. Joseph C. Gatto and Fr. Samuel T. Giangreco, Jr. The board has recommended to Bishop Richard Malone that in each case, the conduct did not rise to the level that would require removal from active ministry.

Both priests have undergone professional evaluation and remedial measures. Malone has accepted the recommendations and will determine assignments for the two priests at "an appropriate time."
