Independent Health says personal patient information from thousands of members was inadvertently sent to a single individual two months ago. The email contained data from more than 76-hundred members, including their Independent Health ID numbers, the names of providers seen and dates of service. But a company spokesman says more sensitive information such as social security numbers and birthdates was not disclosed.
Apparently, a member requesting their personal information received an email containing the data of other members. The recipient alerted Independent Health about the mistake. The insurer then received confirmation that the email was deleted from the recepient's inbox.
Affected members were notified this week that their data was shared.
