Town of Aurora voting to transfer its water districts to ECWA

A special vote is taking place in the Town of Aurora Tuesday. Residents will be deciding whether to transfer their water districts to the Erie County Water Authority.

Over five years ago, the Town Board voted unanimously to transfer Aurora's water districts to the Erie County Water Authority. They include more than 20 districts, many with only a small number of households.

The infrastructure improvements required for the transfer have been completed. The final step before the transfer is for residents to approve the dissolution pf districts and authorize the transfer of assets from the town to the ECWA.

Town officials say the transfer will reduce future taxes when water line repairs are needed. Several districts will see significantly reduced water rates, while others that already receive bills from the ECWA will see little to no change.

Voting is noon-8 p.m. in the Aurora Town Hall Auditorium.
