Large fire breaks out at North Tonawanda commercial building

A large fire broke out Monday morning at a shopping strip on just north of DeGraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda.

The blaze started at a building on Division Street at the corner of East Goundry Street around 10 a.m.

Firefighters from three different departments worked to extinguish the blaze, which also encompassed a deli, a computer store, and a nail salon. As of early Monday afternoon, water was still being poured on the building and firefighters were tearing down a corner wall to get better access.

North Tonawanda Fire Chief Joe Sikora said no civilians or firefighters were injured from the blaze.

Residents across the street speculated the fire started in the laundromat, but Sikora said until firefighters can get inside the building, the cause can't officially be determined.
