As promised, tallest thrill ride in NYS to open in May

Six Flags Darien Lake

Six Flags Darien Lake is finishing construction on what it says will be the tallest thrill ride in New York State, when the park opens in mid-May.

At a staggering 242' - about 24 stories high - the Six Flags SkyScreamer will provide thrills and chills.

“As a shining beacon of Six Flags Darien Lake, this monstrous tower will serve as an iconic new landmark, calling out to thrill-seekers everywhere,” said Thorpe. “Soaring high among the clouds with majestic views of the park and surrounding countryside far below, guests will take to new, record-setting heights in New York State this season.”

Sitting two-across in open-air swings on the rocket-shaped tower, the SkyScreamer will take 32 riders at a time to those new heights, then spin them round and round in a 98' circle at 35 miles per hour, before coming back down to earth.

By night, a synchronized light show on the ride will light up the sky and be seen across the park. The flight into the clouds was first announced last August.

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation is the world’s largest regional theme park company, with $1.4 billion in revenue and 26 parks across the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Construction crews recorded a video as they topped off the ride.
