Family recipe wins best kielbasa at Broadway Market

Chris Caya WBFO News

Dyngus Day festivities on Monday included Buffalo's Best Kielbasa Contest at the Broadway Market.

A pair of brothers, David and Michael Bruski, took top honors for their homemade fresh kielbasa and homemade smoked kielbasa. David says it was fun winning the contest this year, on their second try.

"The fresh Polish sausage recipe is actually from my father. We used to grow up making this sausage and the smoked, we just came up with," said David Bruski.

Mike Bruski says they began working on their smoked recipe in January. While they both enjoy making kielbasa for special occasions, they don't plan to make it a business.

"We make our sausage for ourselves. It's a traditional thing. My daughter, she's part of the whole deal too. She flew in from Boston today  just for this. But she made her own sausage at home. So it's a traditional thing. My parents passed it on to us. I'm passing it on to my kids. So it's a great thing," said Dave Bruski.

This year's winner for commercial fresh kielbasa was Melloni's Meats and Catering of Tonawanda.
