WBFO & The Patrick P. Lee Foundation Recognized at Mental Health Advocates Annual Dinner

Dave Debo

The Mental Health Advocates of WNY (MHA) recognized WBFO-FM 88.7 and The Patrick P. Lee Foundation with the MHA Advocacy Award for the impact they’ve made in the community through WBFO’s Mental Health Initiative. The award was given March 13 at the MHA Annual Dinner and Auction.

WBFO’s Mental Health Initiative is a two-year project funded by The Patrick P. Lee Foundation. The project provides in-depth coverage of mental health issues and helps to build the mental health literacy of the community.

“We’re honored to be recognized for the work we’re doing on the Mental Health Initiative. Mental Health and mental illness touch all of us in some way and we’re gratified to know that, with the support of the Patrick P. Lee Foundation, we’re making an impact by normalizing the conversation about these important topics,” said Dave Debo, WBFO News Director.

Stories under the Mental Health Initiative include a piece on three high school students who created a special activity book for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and the launch of a video series profiling those living with mental illness. The first in the series, reported by Eileen Buckley, told WBFO anchor Mark Wozniak’s story of depression. Visit WBFO's Website for more stories related to WBFO’s Mental Health Initiative.

“The Lee Foundation is proud to support WBFO’s Mental Health Initiative, which provides thorough and balanced coverage of mental health issues,” said Jane Mogavero, executive director, Patrick P. Lee Foundation. “By encouraging public dialogue and challenging stereotypes, the Initiative is helping to build a more inclusive community for people living with mental illnesses. We are grateful to WBFO for their continued partnership and to MHA for this wonderful honor.”

The MHA Annual Dinner and Auction was held on Wednesday, March 13, at the Atrium @ Rich’s. The dinner acknowledges those who have made a difference throughout the year in support of mental health issues.
