Another ranking, another mention for Buffalo. This time, it is Livibility's 2019 list of "Top 100 Best Places to Live." The go-to resource for data-driven information about America's cities puts Buffalo at #70 out of 100 cities with populations under 1 million residents.
"Residents of Buffalo acquiesce to cold winters and often-disappointing professional sports teams in return for a low cost of living (the city earned the #2 spot on our Best Affordable Places to Live list), tight-knit community and rapidly evolving downtown scene," said Livibility.
Also praised was Buffalo's nearness to friendly Canadians, the "awe-inspiring majesty" of Niagara Falls and the cheap hydro-power that comes from it, plus high marks in amenities like "an abundance of parks, museums, concerts" and food.
Livibility ranks cities for its millennial-based audience in the categories of civic, demographics, economy, education, health, housing and infrastructure. Topping the list are Boise, ID; Raleigh, NC; Madison, WI; Iowa City, IA and Rochester, MN. Other New York cities on the list include Albany at #29 and Ithaca at #39.
In a quoted report by "Forbes," it said "millennials had a collective spending power of $200 billion in 2017, and in 2018 will have the most combined spending power of any generation" and "an increasingly important consumer group for businesses and municipalities to consider as they enter the decade of their lives where major life decisions around career, marriage, family and home ownership will be made."
