Vacancy posted for Buffalo's Comptroller

City of Buffalo Common Council

The City of Buffalo has officially posted a vacancy for it's Comptroller position.

The Comptroller's post was officially vacated on Monday morning when Mark Schroeder began his new job as Commissioner of the State Department of Motor Vehicles. Schroeder had been Comptroller since March of 2011, and a member of the New York State Assembly and Erie County Legislature prior to that.

His deputy, Vanessa Glushefski, stepped in as acting Comptroller on Monday, but announced Tuesday she is formally seeking appointment as Interim Comptroller.

According to The Buffalo News, Glushefki joins a field of four other candidates who have made their interest in the job public. They include Schroeder's Spokesperson and Executive Assistant Patrick Curry, Common Council Member Richard Fontana of the Lovejoy district, Erie County Assistant Commissioner of Public Works John Rivera, and Erie County Legislator Barbara Miller-Williams.

The Common Council has 90 days to appoint someone to serve out the term until December 31st. The job is up for election in November.

Resumes and letters requesting appointment to the Comptroller position are being accepted in the City Clerk's office through close of business on February 7. Information on qualifications for the position are available in the Clerk's office, or at www.buffalony.gov.
