The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Winter Storm Watch for parts of Western New York for 1 a.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday for Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Genesee, and Wyoming counties.

Heavy lake effect snow is expected with snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches. Winds could gust as high as 40 miles per hour Friday producing blowing and drifting snow and causing difficult driving conditions.

Scattered snow showers are expected Thursday afternoon with winds picking up and creating cold temperatures.  Forecasters said the lake snow band is expected early Friday morning to move south into the city of Buffalo and Genesee County.
