A regional office of the religious order Society of Jesus, whose priests are better known as Jesuits, is scheduled to release its own list of priests facing credible accusations of sexual abuse. At least one of the priests on that list has a Buffalo connection.
Rev. Cornelius Carr, who died in 2008, worked at Canisius High School in Buffalo during part of his careerand was also at one time the principal of McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester.
In December, he was included in a list released by the Society's Central and Southern Province of priests facing sunstantiated accusations of abuse. Carr, who also worked at a Jesuit high school in New Orleans, is accused by a Dallas man of participating in an act of sexual abuse that also involved a school janitor.
He lived out his final years in a Jesuit nursing home on the campus of Fordham University.
The Society's Northeast Province is scheduled to release its own list on or around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, January 15. That list, according to a Society spokesman, will include information including where accused priests served, when they served there, and when and where they are alleged to have committed sexual abuse.
The spokesman confirmed Carr is on the list but did not comment further. It's not yet known whether Carr faces new accusations of abuse or whether his inclusion on the list is the result of the known accusation.
