Dog owners in Buffalo would be prohibited from keeping their dogs outdoors during extreme weather conditions under a new bill now under consideration.

The Common Council's Legislation Committee will review a proposed local law this Tuesday.

According to a draft of the legislation, dog owners in the city would not be able to leave their dogs outdoors for more than one hour when the temperatures drops below 32 degrees or tops 90 degrees.

Violators would be charged with a misdemeanor and would face fines and up to 15 days in jail.

Working dogs or hunting dogs would be excluded.

Delaware District member Joel Feroleto is sponsoring the local law, saying the city should protect the health and welfare of all animals.
