Five people injured in Cattaraugus crash

Five people were hospitalized in an evening crash Monday on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation.

The Erie County Sheriff's Department says two vehicles collided head-on along Route 438 just after 8 p.m.

When deputies arrived at the scene, Seneca Fire and Reservation Ambulance were removing occupants from both vehicles.

Two occupants were taken to Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight for treatment of serious injuries. Three occupants of the second vehicle were transported to ECMC by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
