BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York has named the first recipients of its newly established Blue Fund.
$2.7 million in grants were awarded, Wednesday, at the health plan provider's headquarters, in downtown Buffalo. BlueCross BlueShield President and CEO David Anderson says the funding will help nine different groups located throughout Western New York.
"The intent is to make impactful size grants. Grants that are significant enough to have impact but across the spectrum of healthcare," Anderson said.
The 2018 recipients are: Community Connections of New York, The Horizon Corporations, Jericho Road Ministries, KaBOOM!, Visiting Nursing Association of WNY, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo and Save the Michaels of the World.
The grants are funded from BlueCross BlueShield's "strong reserves."
