The town of Amherst is celebrating its bicentennial this year. Many view Amherst as a generic suburb, filled with big box stores, office parks and jammed four-lane roadways. But in this week's Press Pass with WBFO's Mark Scott, Buffalo Spree editor Elizabeth Licata says that characterization is unfair. She says Amherst has a storied history, dating back to the earliest days of our region.
The Village of Williamsville is the heart of the town. The historic water mill is one of our region's oldest landmarks. The Eagle House is a venerable establishment, having opened as a tavern in 1832.
Williamsville is undergoing a major transformation this summer to make Main Street safer for pedestrians. For several years now, the village has organized a new summer tradition, "Music on Main." Glen Park and its beautiful water fall provides a welcome respite.
