New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli is reporting strong growth in local state sales tax collections through the first half of the year. Calculations show a 6 percent increase across the state through June, which is equivalent to a $500 million increase over the same period last year. DiNapoli notes that this is the highest half-year increase since 2010, and it is the fourth consecutive period of strong sales tax collections.
The Southern Tier ranked highest in sales tax collection increases for regions outside of New York City.
