Hochul pushes Reproductive Health Act

Chris Caya WBFO News

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul was in Buffalo Monday pushing for the Reproductive Health Act to be passed in Albany.

At Planned Parenthood's office on Main Street, Hochul said President Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, will likely be confirmed, making the high court "completely pro-life." Hochul says Trump is going to turn his back on reproductive health choices and she is calling on the State Senate to reconvene and make Roe v. Wade part of state law.

"Donald Trump, the Supreme Court and Republicans should not have control over womens' right to choose. That's the end of the debate. And it should be a simple one. Come back to Albany. Cast your vote. Let the voters know where you stand on this critical issue of our time," Hochul said.

While New York was ahead of the nation in 1970, by giving women the right to choose, she says state law did not keep up and abortion is still part of the state's criminal code, deterring doctors across New York from providing care. If the new law is enacted, abortion would fall under state health law.
