Funeral arrangements have been announced for Dan Fitzgibbons, the Erie County deputy commisssioner of buildings and grounds whose body was found Monday morning in Cattaraugus Creek near Springville.
Authorities say they are investigating his death as a suicide, as many praised Fitzgibbons as a popular figure in the county and Lackawanna, where he also served as a city marshal.
However, his death was preceded by a series of unusual texts from his cell phone to people throughout the Rath Building and authorities are investigating how they relate to the apparent suicide.
Friends and family may call Thursday from 3 p.m.-8 p.m. at the James W. Cannan Funeral Home in Orchard Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at Our Lady of Victory Basilica begining at 10:30 a.m.
