The two companions of the Lancaster teacher who died over the weekend in a boating accident were both off-duty Lancaster police officers.

The Buffalo News reports that Lancaster Police Capt. William Karn confirmed that fact, but did not identify the two. However, the News reported that sources identified the officers as Lt. Michael Cronin and Officer Shawn Zaffram.

Eric Przykuta, 43, a seventh grade science teacher in the Lancaster Central school district, died after the fishing boat he was on crashed into the breakwall near the Outer Harbor.

The two officers were wearing life jackets when authorities responded to a call for help late Saturday night, but Przykuta did not have a life jacket on when his body was found in the water Sunday morning.

Buffalo Police homicide detectives are investigating the death, while the Erie County Sheriff's Office is handling the boat crash investigation.
