A 34-year-old man with prior military experience was taken in to custody in Lewiston after he barricaded himself inside an apartment on Plain Street.
This morning residents around the 400 block of Plain were asked to shelter in place after the situation began with a 911 hang-up call just before 8 o’clock this morning. Officers believe it was part of a domestic incident and may be attributed to PTSD.
Chief Frank Previte said when dealing with a mental health concern they always have to err on the side of caution.
"Tactically we do it from a very precautionary standpoint if we know the person is inside by themselves," said Previte. "Which we were able to confirm. There was no other people involved inside the house with him. We just kind of slow everything down for everybody's safety sake. Kind of take a deep breath and just try and open up the lines of communication at that point."
Previte said no weapons were found inside the apartment. A mental health evaluation will be administered for the male taken in to custody. Nobody was harmed during the incident. Charges are pending regarding the domestic incident.
