The Rev. Bishop Richard Malone, leader of the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo apologizes for the victims of the sexual abuse scandal by priests that has rocked the Western New York community.
It comes on the same day when another victim is making a claim. Wayne Bortle, a native Western New York, spoke for the first time publicly Friday to announce he allegedly had been sexually abused as a 16-year-old by a Catholic priest.
Bortle claims he was abused by Fr. Robert P. Conlin, a deceased priests. Bortle said it happened in the rector of St Mary’s Parish in Pavilion, New York in 1980.
WBFO News reached out to the Diocese and a comment from the Bishop. The diocese released a more than 4:30 minute video message from Bishop Malone offering an apology.
“I want to address with you the revelation of the sexual abuse scandal within our Diocese of Buffalo. To any and all of you who are victims of sexual abuse as children or youth by a priest or deacon in the Diocese of Buffalo, I am profoundly sorry for the tremendous pain this has caused you,”
