BREAKING: Fuel tanker crashes at Prior Aviation

Prior Aviation File Photo

Emergency crews are at work early Friday morning at Prior Aviation.

Prior Aviation had no comment on the situation. However, Buffalo Niagara International Airport Spokesperson Helen Tederous told WBFO the incident occurred about 5:40 a.m.

"A Prior Aviation fuel truck hit a fence and has been leaking some fuel," Tederous said. "Hazmat teams are out there. We are out there, as well. Buffalo Fire is joining, as is U-Crest, and are containing the situation."

Cheektowaga Police also confirm the fuel leak, but said airport emergency crews are handling it and there was no reason to stay away from the area.

Unconfirmed reports size the tanker at 5,000 gallons, a fear that all will leak out and that some fuel has found its way into the sewer system. The state Department of transportation has closed westbound Genesee Street from Holtz Drive to Cayuga Drive to traffic.
