A busy portion of Chippewa Street was closed temporarily this morning when a manhole cover was blown into the air. Buffalo Police and Buffalo Firefighters joined crews from National Grid in responding to the scene. Authorities are not reporting the cause of the explosion at this time, though a similar incident occurred in 2015 when an electrical fire ignited built up gas under the street.
Chippewa was closed for approximately 30 minutes and has re-opened.
