Power is still out for thousands of utility customers in the Southern Tier in the wake of the late week snowstorm that dumped up to two feet of heavy, wet snow

According to an update from National Grid at 11 a.m. Sunday, there were 3,600 customers in Cattaraugus County and another 1,500 in Allegany County awaiting restoration. National Grid had hoped to have all service restored by noon, but has now backed off from that. The utility is now saying all power should be restored in Allegany County by 4 p.m. Sunday. But the timeline for full restoration is uncertain in Cattaraugus County.

The number of outages for customers of New York State Electric and Gas is going down. As of 11 a.m., power has been restored to all but 575 NYSEG customers in the region.
