Ambulance catches fire, explosions occur at AMR headquarters

A fire broke out at the parking lot of AMR headquarters on William Gaiter Parkway in Buffalo this morning. A new model ambulance undergoing routine maintenance caught fire. Shortly after, oxygen tanks on board exploded causing the fire to spread to the roof of the main building.

About 20 to 40 people were evacuated and two AMR employees were taken to ECMC for minor injuries. 20 to 30 cars nearby were damaged.

The fire has since been contained. The total loss of the new vehicle alone is close to $100,000. The cause of the original fire has not been confirmed.

AMR still remains fully operational today.
