National Grid has been given tentative approval for an over 10 percent rate hike that will likely take effect in the spring.
The average monthly residential bill for 600 kilowatt hours of electricity will increase by about $2.22 per month at first, with incremental increases to follow totaling about $8.50 per month after three years. That is a 2.9 percent hike in the first year, followed by 3.9 percent increases in years two and three.
The increase is less than the $11 per month per customer originally requested by National Grid. The rate hike is still subject to public hearings, before final approval by the New York State Public Service Commission.
