New York Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand have announced the state's receipt of federal grant money to fight homelessness. Two hundred million dollars from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development will fund nearly 600 programs across New York. The money will be allocated to local governments to support affordable housing projects and to increase access to programs that help the homeless become more self-sufficient.
The grant was announced on Friday as part of HUD's Continuum of Care Program.
